Experience Matters

9/19/2016

Chemistry and experience have become two of the most important factors in the success of a professional ultimate team. The only major exception has been the AUDL's 2016 Dallas Roughnecks. Major League Ultimate has just finished up their fourth season of play. Still after four years, retaining players is an issue for all of the teams.

There are only 30 players that have been rostered in all four years of the MLU. The two conference champions, the Portland Stags and Philadelphia Spinners, have over half of the 30. There were 130 players that had played at least one season in the league and an astounding 127 MLU rookies in 2016.

Below each team is ranked based on the experience of their rosters. No surprise, the top four are all of the playoff teams in 2016. The rankings are extremely close to the final positioning of teams at the end of the season. If you were to factor in other pro league experience for each player, it would bump the Spinners and New York Rumble to first and sixth respectively.

(Due to lack of organization of past AUDL team rosters, AUDL experience could not be accurately factored in. Therefore those data points were left out all together and solely focused on MLU experience.)
